Go with some aftermarket 1piece axleshafts, the AMC20 is a decent axle once you address the weak 2piece shafts.

I wouldn't mess with D44's unless you're willing to upgrade both the front and rear to a wider pair of axles, then consider Waggy d44's, or a Waggy front d44 and Isuzu Rodeo rear d44 (discs and matching 6-lug).
