Question Internationl 345 needs trans

Mopars, Amcs, Internationals, OH MY!
I'm totally lost. I've got a 345 cube International Harvester v8 that runs like a determined fat kid chasing the ice cream truck with a $20. I picked it up for a song (ahem, under $50 and still legal!), but the guy already sold his auto trans and wouldn't let go of his manual trans. ...this build is actually for the Mrs. so I was thinking Auto anyway. She's cool, but not cool enough to row her own gears. Anyway, the 345 came out of a 1979 with 125k on the clock and has the swell script on the valve covers, complete with firing order for both 4 and 8 cyl. I know the Torque Fright 727 was used with some International Harvesters, but have heard conflicting stories about what will mate up to my 345. If you tell me what to measure I'll provide any additional info needed. I just need to know what I need to be shopping for. Believe it or not, this is intended to be a 2wd. Were any other Autos used other than the 727? Will the Mopar 727's bolt right on to the 345? Will our hero manage this budget build up without having to drive all over creation looking for a trans he can afford? (She wants to drive all over creation After I install said trans)

Re: Internationl 345 needs trans

Though this is a jeep board you happened to get one jeeper who had owned a 73 IH Scout II with the 345.

The Torque Flight 727 came in the 73 and was a reliable, heavy duty transmission, it has a 23 spline out put, and bolt pattern that will match up to a twin stick Dana 300 transfer case.
A competent transmission shop could do the 904 conversion in the internals as I did in the late 80's to handle the 4:56 gears in the IH Dana 44's.
Now as to weather a Chrysler TF727 will bolt up that I don't know I think they were in some Full size mid 60's jeeps bolted to the AMC 304. If I remember right they were a different bell housing but don't quote me on that.

Didn't notice this post (been gone awhile) I have a '71 IH Loadstar with 345 and 5 speed Clark trans which will be replacing the BG241 in my buddy's '68 Travelall this winter.

Re: Internationl 345 needs trans

Project has taken a new turn... picked up a pair of the IH 727's cheap, needing rebuild of course, and lacking tailshafts ... but have just been given a 70 wagoneer, good motor, good trans, good 4wd, good title, cracked windshield, hole in radiator, soft breaks, rotted out body, cadilac interior!?!, 60's ford guages?!? Free. cannot argue with free. Now if i can manage to finish this project, I've got a head start with parts on the next project.
