I just installed a Quik lock a.k.a. Lock right in the rear of CJ5. The rear end is a amc model 20. After the install the rear is deffinately locked, but its supposed to unlock when going around corners. It will not come unlocked now, I know this because my turning radius is gone. What did I do wrong on the install?? I could have bought a spool if I wanted this. I thought I was careful with instructions. Any ideas?

Don't the lockrights require a special gear fluid? or is it the other way, the lock rights don't need the special fluid??

I think only limited slips need special fluid.

you wouldnt lose on your turning radius from the rear would you?, when you turn does your tires chirp? or make any noise like scraping along the pvement? if it does then your locker deffinatly isnt unlocking..

take it out in a parking lot and, going slow, make the sharpest turn that you can-with the wheels truned all the way. See if the tire on the inside skids and will most likely make a chirping noise if it is staying locked. Do it without a lot of throttle.

A lock right can only unlock if there is no pressure from the engine. If you have a standard then put it in neutral when rolling and see if it unlocks on pavement. They will not always unlock on dirt, it is easier for the tire to slide then the locker to open. The only thing that could have been done wrong on the install is the springs.

Ok, After all of this trouble I have had with this locker install, I figured it out. I have a quadra trac, limited slip axle. I didn't know it was limited slip, you cannot install this locker into this housing. I had to swap it out with a housing that had pins to keep the center shaft in place. My old housing did not have this, also it did not have enough room in it for the locker to become unlocked. No specail fluids, just needed the right parts.

Lesson learned, after thinking that your next project may only take a couple of hours, make sure you have all of the correct parts, and don't assume. If the install doesn't seem right, its probably not.
