My catalytic converter went bad and i dont have money to buy a new one and have it installed. a shop said they could just ream the inside out and im thinking about doing this till i can get money for a new exhaust systerm. Is there any real disadvantages to doing this other then it is illegal...Also im looking to buy a new exhaust system like a borla, does anyone have information on a good setup and which ones sound good. i have a 90 cherokee 4.0L

2nd question is...theres a 3.5inch sky jacker lift on the jeep already but apparently someone said i need body spacers between the frame and the body..is this true and how important is this to the jeep?[addsig]

Hey there "SLY8795!" Welcome to the board!

In answer to your question bout the disadvantages of the converter.....

I had an '93 YJ that the converter went out, (clogged up) on me, and I just

cut the exhaust completely off(converter too) and left it off for @ a year.

It ran smoother but was a lot louder...naturally. Didn't hurt anything though. If your

engine is carburated, you will have to adjust the idle.

---As far as what kind of "HI-FLOW" cool sounding exhaust.... "FLOWMASTER!!!!"

---Spacers for the lift....not sure bout that one. good luck! [img]modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] [addsig]

The XJ (Cherokee) body is a unibody. There are no spacers. The only thing you have are bushings on the front and back of the leafsprings, and the bushing on the front upper and lower control arms. There is also a small spacer on the spring perch up front.

The other body styles TJ, CJ, and YJ jeeps do use body spacers.[addsig]
