I was washing my Jeep today. Finally it's 38 degrees here in snowy NY. I have a 2001 and I noticed brown spots all over the body. It's like the size of a head of a pin. I hope this isn't rust. It comes off with some furious buffing with Mother's Carnauba Cleaner wax. But, I'm starting to get paranoid. I despise rust! The spots also come back in random spots. Didn't happen during the "salt-free" season, but I'll buff it off in the summer.

I'M A DORK
Here are some pics. The first and last one are for those of you who haven't seen my Jeep with the lift and the bumper trimming. The middle one is of the brown spot (one of 2000000). You can't feel it, but it's a PITA to get off!!!

RE: Paragon 1/30/05
You may want to see if you can find some automotive clay also know as a clay bar. Takes just about anything off of paint except the paint. Check this out:

Hmmmm, could it be sap or something like that from trees? I get spots sort of like that and that is all it is. Those pesky little things are hard to get off if that's what it is.

Greatest Sports Moment
Its not sap. I know it well. But, however the color is exactly the same as rust. I will be clay barring the Jeep if it gets over 50 degrees. Full buff and wax job as well. And ofc, pics will be up too. Heheh.

Radio not fused through the box.
Your Jeep's clear coated, right? If so, it can't be rust if your able to get it off. If it was rust and you were able to get it off...that would mean you were going all the way through the clear coat, paint, primer, and everything else to get to it.
I still say it could easily be coming from those trees above your Jeep in the picture

I'm guessing, as a friend told me - it could be brown road salt. Its more sticky than the white ones.
I think this theory is correct. I'll keep you posted. But enjoy the lift pics!!

Does that come from a brown salt truck, kind of like the egg thing?

Here in the mountains, they mix sand and salt pretty regularly (improves traction while melting). Could be that!?!

That would make sense. Cause it would get on the vehicle when it is wet (the salt), and then when the water dries, the salt would stay "glued" to the car.

Hahaha! You weren't around for the egg joke. I was referring to an old thread about Boston.
