clutch advice?

out for dinner the other night and when i came out of the restaurant the clutch felt extremely light and shifting was almost impossible, 87 mj 4cyl 5 spd.
externally the trans looks like it the case splits in half? what trans is this?
the clutch slave is internal. and there is no leaks, the system is stil full of fluid.
would you replace the master first?(you know take a chance)
all advice is welcomed
thanks folks

Re: clutch advice?

Splits in half which way? Should be an AX5 tranny.

Price the master cylinder and see if it's reasonable. If you decide to go with a clutch, check out the LUK brand clutch kits from www.carolinaclutch.com and www.dialaclutch.com .

K.I.S.S. Check your linkage before getting out too many wrenches!
