350 conversion -- short or long water pump?

Can anybody tell me if you have to use a short water pump on a gen I chevy 350 engine in a 1983 CJ7? Is it that tight behind a radiator even if I use an electric fan? Parts and pulleys for short pumps is limited and it would be easier to use a long pump...
