Non-Jeep Problem
Sorry folks, I thought I'd post this here because it would get more reads...
My son has a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab and his driver's side rear door is stuck shut. Will not budge. Makes it real tough handling babies without the use of that door!!! We tried taking the hinges loose (didn't work) and finally got the door panel off. The outer handle feels very funny - not quite right - but the inner handle works just fine. All the jiggling, prying, etc. I've done has not worked. Has anybody ever had a similar problem with any other vehicle (I mean, a door lock is a door lock, right?)??????? I figured I'd throw it out to the folks on Jeepz.........lots of intelligent people on here. Any help/suggestions you could throw my way would be greatly appreciated!!
Right now, my next suggestion is dynamite...............
Frustrated,
mud

I would take the door panel off of the working door and study it for a while. You may be able to figure out what's wrong with the broken one that way.

Re: Non-Jeep Problem
You say the inner handle works fine? Does this mean it does open from the inside or the handle moves freely but still stays stuck? The most common problems for a stuck door(in my experience) is some sort of force damage to the door that either wedges the frame or tweaks the striker enough to not allow the jaws of the lock assy to disenage. I would follow Terry's line of logic here and remove the inner panel and stare at it for awhile, there is a possibility one of the actuation rods either broke or came loose and is jamming the lock assy. Good luck.

Re: Non-Jeep Problem
the stupid door latch that holds the door shut against the cab is broken, either the linkage that pulls it open is broken or the latch is just broken.... since u got the door panal off i would dig around that latch and try to find the lever the releases it. if u can pull around or even pry on that lever the door will pop open. dynamite will deffinatly work but its gunna be a messy clean up. hehehe

Re: Non-Jeep Problem
Appreciate the replys!!! Yeah, I said the "inner" handle works fine, but that was just a "feel" kinda thing. The outer door handle feels suspicious to me. There is no apparent damage, but it's not mine so I don't really know (kids can really be shaky with the truth ). I've felt all around in the dang thing and can't figure out what's going on. Terry had a GREAT suggestion, but we've got this door panel off and I can pretty much see everything I could see with the other panel off............I think the next thing I'll try is blastin' the snot out of it with WD40 and see if something gives (I can't really afford dynamite anyway ).
Keep the suggestions comin'!!!!!

Re: Non-Jeep Problem
trade that Nissan off and get him a real truck!
I have seen a fair share of door latch problems out of the imports like that.
I had to fix and Isuzu for a buddy while he was away in Iraq so his wife could sell it and boy what a PITA
good luck with it
