Started up my Jeep earlier and heard a funny rattle comming from underneath. I looked under it and it sounded like it was coming from the cat. I was at my mothers house and she was parked behind me so I had her move her car. When she walked around behind my Jeep I reved the engine up and she said someting felt like it hit her. I walked around back and sure enough there were pieces of the cat laying in the driveway. I know everyone talks about hollowing them out. I still have to get it through emissions. Now I know some say that without a working cat it wont pass, but a friend of mine hollowed out the cat on his dodge spirit and so far it has passed 2 emissions tests. So what does everyone think? Should I give it a try?[addsig]

Anyway you can try to pass emissions with a hollow cat but its doubtful that you will pass. Your best bet would be to replace the converter.[addsig]

Give it a try! Is your emissions test a visual or tailpipe sniff or both? My old CJ had headers and dual exhaust with no cats and I could pass the "sniffer". But you need to be well tuned. Set carb to "lean best idle", change your oil, have fresh gas, and get it tested when it's warm. Make sure that cat is not clogged. That will be a problem. At least your Jeep is running![addsig]

Well they do the dyno thing here where they put a sniffer on the tailpipe and run it at highway speeds. I took it about a month ago to be tested and the only thing that failed it was to much nt. oxide in the exhaust. Guess I know why now with the cat not working. Have until April for the retest[addsig]

The easiest way to get around an inspection around here is to go to some backwoods guy with a case of beer and then- BINGO- you got yourself an inspection sticker. It wouldn't matter if you had to push the Jeep in and when you started it, it resembled a diesel.... Around here inspections are a joke....[addsig]

Around here the joke is usually on me! Try the "emissions passer" in a bottle in addition to the other things. It's sold at Pep Boys etc. It helps! Your close! I think you can get by.[addsig]

Well I have always said the inspections ae a joke but here in Maryland they can only be done in state emission inspection stations so I don't think there is any way of buying someone off. They would have to find a way of fudging the emission reading in their computer. Why does this state have to be so difficult?[addsig]
