"99 Wrangler 4.0L Sport Electrical?

Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

I hope this query finds you in good health and spirit.

Your experience, wisdom, and guidance is needed.



I have seen many tech questions here, with good response, I apologize

if I should have left this, just on the tech Board. If I'm wrong, I'll learn.



Problems: read all first, me thinks there is a correlation between them.



1. Horn - Press air bag cover, hear relay click, no noise or volts at termination.

good fuses and relays.



2. Stereo - several times has just shut off. CD player, FACTORY???



3. Hit a bump or hit the steering wheel just right,,,, and you may see:

A. Air bag light comes on red.

B. Odometer reads ------- nobu5 (Five or S?? I can't tell)

C. Tach and Speedo may or may not fall still.

D. Oil, Temp, Batt, may or may not fall still.



Clutch, key off, key on, re-engage, sometimes works.

smack the steering wheel and everything goes normal.

fly over a speed bump. USE THE TILT on the steering column.

all of these may cause failure or fix.



I have never worked on airbags and respect explosives.



Surely it's a loose connection or short, probally in the steering

column, but I would greatly appreciate your guidance, 'cause

I do not want to blindly jump into messing with all of those controls,

air bag, and clock springs.



I have a Haynes manual,, and the Jeep bible as reference, NO FACTORY MANUAL>

the best thing to do since the air bag is in question. take it to a jeep dealer to check the air bag light. Hopefully they will also locate the other electrical problems that your having with it. [img]modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif[/img] [addsig]

The odometer is reading "NoBus" because the guage cluster is loosing the signal from the computer due to a bad connection at the bus connector that connects the guage cluster to the wiring harness. There should be a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) issued by jeep to cover this, check at www.alldata.com . Give the dealership the TSB number and they may fix it for free. It's a very common problem.



Some jeepers have fixed it themselves, usually by bending the terminals in the bus connector for a better connection, packing it full of dialectric grease, and then reconnecting and securing tight with zip ties. [img]modules/phpBB_14/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] [addsig]
