What are these Interior roof clips???

I just bought a 2000 Cherokee Classic. It is awesome, even better than the 1989 Cherokee I recently totaled in an accident with a semi.

It has these two black clips in the interior roof hanging down between the driver's and passenger's heads. They appear to be about the size to fit a broom handle. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE HELL THESE ARE FOR?[addsig]

Yes, the overhead console definitely is supposed to be there. There is a small display showing trip odometer, outside temp, MPG, etc. And then it goes farther back toward the rear with a sunglasses holder, what looks to be a fuse box or some way to access the wiring. And then farther back are these two mysterious clips. I am stumped![addsig]
