Axle Seal

Getting ready to do the passenger side axle seal on the front axle of my jeep...any tricks, help or general information i should know??[addsig]

might as well refresh the wheel joints while you have the axle out.. put some greasable joints in there... the only tip i can give you, is when you put the seal in... make sure it goes in right, and doesn't get caught in any position that may damage it... its a fragile piece, just rubber and flimsy metal[addsig]

Put a little RTV silicone around the seal before you press it in. If it's too tight, put the seal in the freezer for 10 minutes and it will start in easier.

Don't pull the axles by removing the 36mm hub nut. Remove the hub by unbolting the three 13mm bolts behind the kncukle, then slide the axle shaft and hub out as an assembly. Let me know if you need help getting the hub off and I'll give some tips.[addsig]

Since your Jeep is an '89, buy a couple cans of PB Blaster and start spraying down now the bolts you'll be removing. Spray the rotor where it meets the center of the hub (flange surrounding the hub nut). Spray the three 13mm 12pt. bolts behind the knuckle that hold the hub to the knuckle. You can also spray the end of these if you remove the rotor. Spray these as often as possible until you remove them. PB Blaster is the shiznit
