My jeep is backfiring now! BAD! See I pulled a trailer the other day moving some furniture for a friend and my jeep could barely handle it. I could only go about 45 with my foot to the floor. This was going about 200miles round trip. Well after getting the trailer unhooked and all and normal driving I am getting a lot of backfiring between shifts. As soon as I step on that clutch and the engine revs down it goes pow pow POW POP! I don't get it...maybe I fubared the little 4 banger engine with all that pullin...oh well maybe its time to start thinkin about that v8 swap. I know where I can get a good running 305 for about $200.[addsig]

no one eh? I tested the jeep and it didn't seem to be throwing any codes but I think it may be because I have a hollow catalytic converter and I noticed today that the cat is pushing itself off of the downpipe again (it has pushed itself off before..and then my jeep sounded like a semi on the jake brakes hehe). I put a heavy duty clamp on there but it still pushed itself almost off and I think the lack of back pressure was causing the backfire...still not sure though. May just buy me a new catalytic converter and weld it on when I have the money.[addsig]

You most likely are sucking in air from where the cat used to be. Since I removed my cat, I've been getting little pops like that. I didn't weld the straight pipe in, I just clamped it and most not have clamped it tight enough.[addsig]
