Transfer case part interchangability

I want to put a tailshaft housing from a TJ on my YJ's transfer case, does anybody know if this will work? The two pieces are very different, but they look like they bolt to the rear case half the same.

I'm cutting the end of the shaft off and putting on a fixed yoke, so the driveshaft and yoke part of the install is not a concern.[addsig]
