I'm buying a 1983 CJ7. It has 32" tires on it and they fill up the wheel wells more than I like so I wanted to put a lift on it. Money will be tight so a $400 lift is out of the question at this time. What about a shackle lift?[addsig]

sure you can get a shackle lift, i do recomend a 1 1/2 lift no more than that.also you can get a 1" body lift its only about 69-80 bucks and its simple ot install.[addsig]

I don't want to jinx the deal so I'll hold off on posting a price until the deal is sealed. It is a 1983 CJ7 with hard top & doors, Laredo package, AC (the inside was taken out to find leaks and never put back in, but it worked when it was taken out), 95,000 miles. I'm pretty excited about it. I am selling my 1997 Chevy ext cab 4 x 4 with 3" body lift and 33s on it. I do not want to sell my truck but my wife is going back to college and I need to save some money. I figure that I can buy this jeep for cheap. I can also work on the Jeep if I need to.[addsig]

you will not be disapointed w/ the jeep, i would suggest a small 1'' body lift to clear the tires, i belive you will need to cut and extend the steering shaft and the clutch linkage w/ the body, but a small body lift is ALOT better than shackles[addsig]

combination of 1" shackles and a 1" body lift... shackles are cheap and easy... a body lift made from REAL RUBBER hockey pucks is really cheap and easy... drill out the center, and there you have it... get some bolts from the hardware store and all is good[addsig]

I'd be a little hesitant in using "hockey pucks" for a quick 1" lift. **** can happen with the stress we put on our Jeeps, and you may end up paying more for repairs that what you would pay for a real lift. Just my 2 cents. :)[addsig]

No, actually.. again, if you use REAL RUBBER hockey pucks, it is completely safe, especially if you squirt them with some lube here and there... its been done for years... and you can take if from Bounty Hunter, it seems his setup has proven worthy for him for some time now... I would have NO problem doing that when the time comes for a needed inch. But as for anything more than 2", I wouldn't do it. I would not lift it more than 2" without body relocation[addsig]
