Hi, I am fairly new to this forum. I have been lurking for a while finding out stuff about jeeps. I finally got one last week. A 97 Sport. I want to get into offroading, nothing too crazy. I do want to get a lift big enough for 33" tires.
I have a few questions.
What kind of lift, and how big do you guys recommend? I know people like to recommend RE, but their kits are almost a $1000. not ruling them out though.
I really like the American Racing 767 (like the low key black)
What size wheel would be best?
Can you recommend some tires and what size?
Thanks,
Joe

goodyear mtr's
I will at least suggest a cheaper wheel. http://www.quadratec.com Look under your year and model and then choose Exterior. Scroll down a bit and Cragar's go for 38 bucks a pop.

Good find for the wheels. They look just like the American racing version.
Now I just need a lift. Anyone have any experience with Black Diamond 3" lift? Would it clear 33" tires on a 15 x 8" wheel?
thanks,
Joe

I have narrowed it down to the Black Diamond 3" lift kit and the Rough Country 4" kit. They are both about the same price and both will allow 33" tires.
I guess it comes down to which is the more complete kit?
I want to buy an all in one kit and not worry about replacing other things down the road.
Also, will a 33x12.5" tire will fit on a 15x8" wheel?? And is 3.75 backspacing correct for my 97 Sport??

a wonderful tire is the procomp MT. I am running 33X12.5R15 on my TJ right now and have never had a problem with traction. Keep in mind that i live in colorado, so most of my wheeling is done in snow and water. These tires have great traction in all conditions, espically snow. also, when aired down, these tires conform to rocks better then may i have seen.

Yes, a 33x12.50 will fit on a 15x8 rim, but a 15x10 might be optimal. Depends on your use. As for the lift, I'd go with which ever one has the more complete kit. Remember that you will need brake line relocators, trac bar brackets, and a t-case drop kit. Those are all important components of a lift kit. You might want to also look for adjustable control arms if you're going with a 3" lift or more. Just a suggestion.
