--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have owned a Grand Cherokee for a year.
This past weekend, I bought a 1988 Jeep Comanche 4x4 (4.0 inline 6) Laredo with 130,000 miles on it. This will be my hunting vehicle.

The engine is sound--starts good, idles good, runs strong. there is only one problem with the truck. Every once in a while, the transmission will slip going into second. Right as it is about to shift, the RPMs shoot up,and it slips. It only happens sometimes. I don't know how the transmission has been maintained over the years.

Any suggestions, or ideas as to what this could be--minor problem or serious??

thanks

Help with Comanche Transmission!

Sounds like your clutch might be going bad. Try to start out in second and see if it slips when starting, You can also do 3rd. Just a guess. I am not familiar with that trans.

Sorry Have you checked your fluid. If it is low it will slip. Also If it smells burnt get it changed. A full flush job is the best. If you only change the filter it only does about half. If the ATF is really dirty than you may want to have the filter changed and have a flush. I think the last flush I had was $59.99 ant they said they would do the filter for like $30 more. It has been a year so the prices might not be right.
