best degreaser?

what should i use to degrease/clean my engine and transmision/transfer case? I have baked on grease, oil, sludge, dirt, small rodents, tree huggers, and tailgaters caked all over the underside of my 7.

any miracle products out there i should try?

i use that cheap degreaser that they sell in auto zone it works good. that or you can use induestrial floor cleaner taht they use in schools to take grafetti off the walls, that stuff works wonders...

it depends how thick the build up is. you might have to scratch some of it off first, then i use "simple green" and let it soak for 10-15 min, then blast it off with water, and redo if necessary.

Kinda messy but rent a Steam Jenny from your local tool rental place. This thing is like a presure washer but uses very hot water alost steam. It has a pick up for soap, degreeser, ect... this is the way to get rid of the most of it any way. You will need to be able to get under there some how hopefully you have enough lift to just walk under hehehe

The Coke Corp uses something really strong to degreese their fleet trucks. coke syrup! they say it is one of the best things in the world to clean up a greesy mess. Eats right through the stuff. Makes me thirsty how about you? tug

Yeah ,Tug is right!!! I have used Greased lightening and let it soak, then go to a car wash. After you are done, it is a good idea to rinse down the car wash out of respect, or else they may hang up signs " NO MUD OR GREASE CLEANING" . If I am doing a rebuild I will rent a steam cleaner like Tug is talking about, it reallly is fast and cheap. The steam vapor blows away the grease and some of the paint too.

If you do use a steam cleaner , or any high pressure washing unit, car wash etc. , wear safety glasses , and maybe a rain coat or poncho. When the stream comes back at you sometimes it can blow debris and soap in your eyes at very high pressure.

The really best way is rent the steam cleaner, use a pump up sprayer like you see in the garden department to spray the detergent . Get a rain poncho and lay down where you can see to spray all under your rig.
" While wearing a face shield". Let it soak. Then steam away all of the grime.

I have heard of people using the water from the drain on their hot water heater????????? I would be afraid it might not shut off good and disturb the rust and calcium in the tank and cause other problems.
