dana 35 to dana 44 swap

if i were to get rid of the 35 for a 44 out of another XJ am i gonna have to change anything out? i hear the 44 is an inch longer so it would helo with driveline angles, what do you guys think?

Are you referring to "axel length"? Or differential measurments, front to back. If you get it out of another XJ the length is the same. I've been toying with doing the swap myself, and everything I've heard or read says it sould pretty much bolt right in (relatively, there's always some tinkering necessary)

Conserning the driveshaft, I found this on another web site:
"As far as The original XJ 44 can be bolted on to any Cherokee, with a possible modification only to the rear driveshaft. It's a length issue. The Dana 44 pinion is about an inch longer than the Dana 35 pinion, so technically you'll need a driveshaft that's an inch shorter. In my case, my earlier suspension lift offset the extra inch of pinion, so the new axle truely bolted in. Unless you're looking for extreme, Dana 60-class strength, the Cherokee 44 really is the best upgrade for the Jeep."

You may have to change the length of the driveshaft, and possibly the u-joint size at the pinion. That's about it.

Incase you didn't see it, I edited my last post check out the comments from the website I found. So, I guess the question is whether you have a lift that offsets the length of the driveshaft.

i have a few inches of lift, would that offset the drive shaft enough? cause i know the lift pulled the slip yoke out more than an inch, and i dont have a transfer case drop or shims or anything else.
