2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee... 40,000 miles dealership told me ring and pinion bearings were shot, it was making a high pitched whining noise.... $1500 later everything is fine...80,000 miles same problem another $1500 and no more noise... something is definately wrong with the car, is anyone else having these problems (please tell me) and what makes the bearings in the rear just go bad every 40,000 miles??

we'll need more information...

what size/type tires are you using?
any lift?
highway miles?
how are the suspension bushings up there?
shocks/springs in OK shape?
out of alignment?
