My buddy has a 2000 Cherokee, and since I have a Wrangler I wasnt sure how to ansewr this... his 4WD shifter no longer works. It just slides back and forth always staying in 2WD. He is leasing this and has to turn it in. Should he assume that the 4WD is shot or could it just be a broken cable and/or linkage. I wasnt sure what kind of set up the Cherokee used. I know my Wrangler used the not so reliable Vaccum system before I PosiLocked it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

TORX

Have him check the TC linkage. The XJ's stopped using the vacuum CAD back in 91-92.

So more than likely it's the linkage.

It's the transfer case linkage.

Hi,

Yes, there is one bolt that holds the handle lever to the transfer case linkage. If it is not tight enough, the handle lever will slide freely on the transfer case linkage, and thus no 4 wheel drive
