Overheating!! Summer is on the way need help!!

I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee. One day it just decided to overheat. I then realized that the cooling fan was not kicking on. Then the water pump started leaking. I replaced that and I also replaced the relay to the cooling fan. Everything was working beautifully, and then the alternator went out. After the alternator went out, the cooling fan quit working again. I am back to square one and I don't want to replace the relay again if it isn't bad. Please help!

IF you have some basic tools, you can test the relay by taking it out of the vehilce. If you want the instructions, several of us can walk you though it.

Thanks alot! That would be great. Just let me know what tools I need to test it. Let me ask you this...would it be better to just by-pass the relay and keep the fan running all the time? That relay is $90!!
