Seats, what are the choices

I want to tear out my electric seats, which work fine, and replace them with some manual ones. I want to do this for more head clearance.

I am 6'6" and it seems that the electric seats take up about 4" of head room.

What do you guys think?
Do you have any suggestions?

I'm absolutely no help for your problem, but I now see why you drive an XJ. When I bought my Wrangler, my Englishman co-worker (6'5" - 6'6") sat in the driver's seat and emulated a shift.............when he let out on the clutch, his knee slammed into the steering wheel - this with the seat back as far as it would go.

Guess us little guys will have to keep dibs on the Wranglers!!!!

I actually fit pretty good into that 2005 I rented in Colorado last month.
Only after a long time behind the wheel did my right knee get uncomfortable hitting the shifter from time to time.
But that XJ of mine with the electric seats doesn't give me much in the way of head room. I sat in one in the wrecking yard with regular seats and it seemed to have more wiggle around room.

At the PA Jeeps show this past Summer the YJ parked next to mine had the Trailmax seats from bestop. They looked pretty nice and the guy said he liked them. I'm considering them as replacements for my worn out YJ seats. I think they make 'em for XJs too.

I've driven on milk crates before! The seat belts don't work too well with them though....

Do you think I would see much difference if I just went with factory XJ manual seats from a wrecked one?

My buddy has some Corbeau, the race style seats, not the suspension, in his XJ and they are manual adjusting back and stuff. But I'm 6'3 and If I wear a hat, the button on top hits the roof when we hit a bump.

That is why I might have to stay with factory non electric seats to be able to recline them back just a tad.

Yea I know the feeling. I'm 6'4 and I drove my friends YJ around one day and I just don't like how small they seem to me. But the 4 door XJ's are hell for me to climb in and out of due to the LONG leg syndrome. Thats why I like my 2 door, the doors huge and it has the same wheel base as a 4 door. Now I would say go with the factory seats, thats what im riding in right now and they absorb much of the shock, I mean I bounce around alot but its better then hitting your head every other bump. I was wondering if I could get some out of a YJ or a CJ and put them in the XJ just because they aren't made of cloth.

Hey, I saw an XJ done that way, either in JP or ORA mag this month.
It had a cut out roof and used a snap top cover system

You could just put a sun roof in and drive with your head out of the top.

....or you could scrap an A1M1 Abrahms tank and mount the turret on the roof of your Jeep, build up your existing seat, and sit behind the .50 cal with a pair of gunner's goggles on as you drive. I'm thinkin' road rage aimed at you would pretty much be non-existent.

Does your electrict seat have a good back bolster?I have regular and they kill my back,which I have broken twice,but with a good bolster,I am fine.The electric one in my 2002 Dakota is great,so maybe we could trade?Where are ya?I am in north central Penna.Thanks
