help me please- desperately need info on the 4.2l I6

i have the opportunity to obtain a 1982 4.2L Inline 6 that runs great, but i know nothing about them..... I only have a couple of days to tell him i want it (for free) and want to become technically saavy....
my questions:

1. its an AMC motor, right? or is it some derivitive of like ford or chevy?
2.factory horsepower?
3.what tranny does it use? can i use a ford tranny or a chevy tranny?
4. anything else that would be informative and useful?

It's an AMC motor and generally requires an adapter plate for a GM or Ford tranny.

thanks forthe reply. So i now know it is an amc product, it's a 258cid, has a mopar tranny.... would like to still find out how much horsepower they have stock?

Noit much(less than the later 4.0L), but they have a respectable amount of torque (more than ther later 4.0L).

Sorry I don't remember the specs, but that info is all over the web.
