Gas Gauge not working!

Ok bought a 1989 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with the 4.0...gas gauge does not work however the truck truns and drives great....assuming I have a test light will there be power coming to the gauge cluster that I can test with it or would there be a better way to find out what is needed i.e. fuel tank sender ect....Thanks for any info!!

The contact strip that plugs into the back of the instrument cluster is a known trouble spot. Most times all it takes to clean it is a pencil eraser and a swipe with contact cleaner.
You could likely ohm test the violet wire at the fuel pump, it should have some ohms and not be open (infinite ohms). This would tell you if it is the sender or more likely something in a connector someplace.

Guess i will have to get an ohm meter as I only have a continuity tester.
