I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee. The right rear axle seal is leaking all over the drum brake system parts. I've taken off the 4 bolts that hold the brake backing plate to the outer axle case. The Haynes manual says the axle should pull out but I can't get it to budge . Is there anything else preventing the inner axle from pulling out? Do I need a special tool? thanks for any help.[addsig]

Do you know if you have the Dana35C or chry8.25 rear. If the D35C, you'll have to open the Differential cover and remove the C clip that holds the axle in place.[addsig]

The axle is a Dana... don't see a recognizable number on it and there were no C-clips involved. I did get the inner axle out, just took lots of tugging , but I guess I should've figured that out; the axle is original and has 403,xxx miles on it . thanks anyways![addsig]
