I have an 81 CJ-7 with both brake lights out. The tail lights work fine with the lights on however, I have lost my brake lights. I checked the fuses and they were fine. I also looked over the wiring in the rear and all looked ok. Any ideas guys?

Thx,

Beach

I am not sure if our jeeps are equipped with them, but see if the break switch is working properly. Also, don't forget to check the bulbs. Replace them and get that out of the way.-al

I second that, I was thinking the break light switch also. It is usually located under the break petal arm.

When I locate the brake light switch, what do I need to look for? Bulbs are ok BTW.

Thanks!

There will be a little button that the pedal arm pushes on. It closes the brake light circuit when you depress the pedal. Make sure that is working (not rusted solid) and the wires are connected to it properly. Also check the wire all the way to the back to make sure its not broken. Sounds like you have an open circuit in there somewhere.
