Sorry, but I needed to tell someone! we spent a lot of hours last night getting the glitches out of my friends yj. He already has a 89 with a 350 in it and 35 mt/s. Well he wanted a commuter jeep so he built a 87 with 35" at/s for less than 5K. the problem was, the wiring harness we used for the vortec 4.3 was giving us so many problems! the motor would idle like crap. the little check engine light we added would start blinking in all different ways, and we had no idea how to check codes. so we did some thinking and if (this is in his harness) you jump the 12 pin and the 16th pin in the obd connector, the codes would read. We found all the little gremlins and now it runs like a dream!

he are the quick specs on it.

95 vortec 4.3
Tranny?? out of a 84 s10
np 207 T case
D44 front
D44 rear
Brown rattle can paint job

How hard was the 4.3 swap? Was it a Vortec?

Wasn't much of a swap, more like a replace. when we got the jeep, it had no motor at all, but used to have a mid 80's 2.8 gm motor with a little super charger on it. so we basically gutted the wiring harness, welded in new motor mounts and dropped in the junkyard motor. the top end got a fresh rebuild and we used a wiring harness from painless. but because it was a mix and matched drivetrain, we had a lot of extra wires!
