My jeep initially had the 151cid 4 cylinder in it. On the passengers side fenderwell in the engine compartment mounted below the loop for the heater hoses. What is it? It looks like a metal relay that has three wires coming out of the bottom. they get power from something. Everything runs and works with it connected or disconnected. Anyone know what it does.

I don't think that's it. It does have something to do with the alternator I think. But the voltage regulator is built into the alternator. It seems like it is switched when the alternator starts charging but everything works with it unplugged or not. I have have it unplugged for a couple of months and everything works. It has to serve some purpose for being there though. Anyone Have and more Ideas???

Can you snap a picture of it? I have a 83 CJ7 and could compare it to mine and see if I know what it is.
