RE: Local Soldiers Heartwarming Tribute

The other night, I was looking around on the web and came across a site which listed all the ratios in every AMC 20 ever made and the corresponding stamp letters. My stamp read "Y" and I'm pretty sure it isnt worn down or anything. This letter was not listed on the shart and I'm dying to know. Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.

I don't know about the chart or id numbers, but you should be able to pull the cover and verify the ratio either by looking for the tooth count stamped on the ring gear or by counting the ring gear teeth and dividing by the pinion gear teeth. The ring gear should be stamped on the circumference with several numbers. Two of those will be the tooth count for your gearset. Divide the higher by the lower. I'm going to guess that you have a 3.54 ratio.

RE: Check out this ebay auction

Are you sure it's a Y?

Check your front axle gear ratio. The rear will be the same.
