Friday I spend a few hrs at the pick u part and scored a York 210R amongst others.

Just in case anyone is looking for one, here is a list of possible donors fotr the York 210 L or R (left or right suction)

I did notice a trend...
20+ year old vehicles are your best bet
(technology now is such that they can make it pump out less air and
still get the same cooling....)

So heres the list - Im sure theres more...
-- 80s - mid 90s non V8 Mercedes (210L)
-- 70s - 80s Volvos. Most however were the Sandens, and Im guessing
if I found an old enough volvo I find it but anyway..
-- Giant semi Trucks - The one I saw was a Freightliner or Peterbuilt
-- 70s and early 80s Fords and Lincoln full size cars.
(gas guzzling "boats")
-- I also saw a frozen up one in a very old ford.. looked like an old
fairlaine.. I cut the hose just for kicks and it was still pressurized!

I got mine from a gas guzzling 70s Ford cougar/ thunderbird or
lincoln mark something (not a IV) but I bet it would have it.

This thing is huge. Much bigger than i thought, I even dismissed it in the ford because I thought it was too big to be it. Its almost 10" tall, and 6x6"!!

It will usually be sitting right there in plain sight on the left or righ side of the engine. NOT tucked down where you cant readily see it. This was the same for all donors I saw.

Be careful of what you pull it out of. Junkyards arent dummys, the Mercedes York will cost considerably more than the old ford beater.
Even though its the exact same thing -with a differnt pully.
I was lucky enough to have the guy tell me this. Mine was $20.

Here is where I got my inspiration and info which led to more info and excitment..

http://www.jeepaholics.com/tech/OBA2/

Good Luck!

RE: OBA compressor donors

haha, that's funny sparky!!

Keep in mind, not all those cars HAVE to have a compressor. Those listed are simply what compressors they will have IF they DO have a compressor in them (ie air conditioning, airbags, etc. are usually optional in most vehicles).

RE: OBA compressor donors

When I was searching for mine. I found the most common vehicle that had em was the Volvo's....there were tonnes of them. Here's how I did my install.... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/475506/6

Oh ya. Unless you have a bodylift and can mount your compressor upright, you'll want a 210R (right hand) discharge unit. Can't remember exactly why but it has something to do with oil discharge. I figured that the discharge being on the bottom would cause a lot more oil to discharge but according to what I read somewhere, you want the discharge on the bottom....although I might be wrong. You'd think you would want it on the top. Now that I have my bodylift, I'm gonna turn it upright.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Jeepy!!!

Also, most any vehicle that has an "dealer installed AC" and also has a V8 in some manner, it most likely will have a 210 york. I got miine out of a 84 volvo Diesel 240, but my old 77 chevy also has one, as a dealer installed factory option. I havealso spotted such a install on 76-87 chevy caprice, impala as well as some Monte Carlo's with the factroy 305 as well as on a 6 cyl camaro. (never saw one on a V8 camaro.)

Some old (pre 86) toyotas will have a york 210, but fairly rare.

how do I wire my new taurus fan ?

AMC/Eagle cars from the 70s and early 80s. The bonus for 258 owners would be the ability to rob the brackets, pulleys, and any other component needed to mount it up by finding an air conditioned six cylinder Concord, Spirit, Gremlin, etc......

I got one of the big ones off of a 74 International Travelall that had an AMC 401 in it. Several IH vehicles used AMC V8s and sixes, so the related bracketry might be useful there too.

RE: this may be normal...but

Not all Yorks are created equal, many have fittings that are difficult to use for OBA, and many aren't the 10ci. models that pump the most air. I think Kilby's website lists all the differences and what to look for. Also has good info on deciphering the serial numbers for the specs.

I use a sandin that came w/my 4.0L swap. Works great, lots of psi. All the equipment is what cost the most, not the compressor....

I've heard the sanden runs really hot when used for OBA. Do you use a preoiler?

i ran oba on my 91 by just cutting the hose on the low side, zip tied a foam filter (hacked from a lawnmower filter) and kept it oiled - didnt have a problem in the 3 yrs i used it - and Junkpile - thanks for the post - i've been trying to find a setup to mount a compressor on my 89 and cant find one... forgot the AMC option - i even drove a 76 Hornet Sportabout Wagon for years in college.. (dont laugh... great beach cruzer!) - so my hunt continues.... btw.. my conversion on the 91 cost about 60 bucks w/used parts from a local shop(regulator/hose) and trips to home depot for tank/misc. pcs...
