chevy or gm, almost all years. late 70's seems to be the most popular but theyre almost all the same until they switched to using balljoints instead of kingpins just recently

RE: More Offroading Pics - From Sept

Don't forget the Dodge front 60. They are similar to the Chevy except they have a different external hub and are a few inches narrower. You could probably score a front and rear together for less than a Chevy front alone.

RE: installing engine-any good manuals?

Chevy front D60s are up to $2000 a piece around here if they know what they've got. I was quoted $2500 for the last one I managed to find that was for sale. Dodge front D60s can be yours for $500 if you look around.

I can buy an old worn out, but running, 1 ton Chevy worktruck cheaper than I could buy just the axles in a junkyard around here. How freakin stupid is that?

Bingo!!!! They are M1038 CUCV's That's what I've got. They are geared 4.56 and the rear has a Detroit installed already.
Chevy 60 fronts around here go for $1200 if they are complete with the brakes. Always make sure you get all the brake components cause they are expensive.
There is nothing wrong with the Dodge stuff, just takes a different style hub. The axles are just as strong.

The trick around here to getting a nie axle set up is to buy a 73-87 chevy 3/4-1ton that is running, but rusted out beyond belief, you can generally get the whole truck for $500-$2000 depending on condition. scores you a 350, matching d60 front, 14 bolt rear, np205 (usually) and SM420/465 if it is a stick.
