Parking brake light

last night when i got into my jeep (95 yj) and pulled the lever to disengage the parking break the brake came up really fast compared to the other thousands of time i've done it. and now the parking brake light won't turn off. It feels like the brake is disengaged but now the pedal just doesn't feel the same when pushed done to engage it. Any thoughts or areas to look to trouble shoot.

Re: Parking brake light

check the obvious first - get underneath and check tension on the cable at the "T" where it splits (drivers side on my 89) and see if there is one side not tight - next check the pedal for any alignment problem - kicked sideways and look at the light switch - there are only a few things that can go wrong outside the drums - if all is okay, pull the drums and see if something gave up inside - basic but hope it helps....
