Removing factory bumperettes??
How does one remove the factory bumperettes (the rubber protusions from the front of the bumper just inside the factory tow hooks facing foward on the vertical surface of the bumper) on an '06 TJ??

Re: Removing factory bumperettes??
An oak tree will usually do it. If that doesn't work, try some hand tools.

Re: Removing factory bumperettes??
I haven't studied the TJ bumpers enough to give you detailed info on removing the bumperettes. It would be my guess that if you can't access the bumperette bolts, then you may have to remove the bumper to get to them.

torch and flat-head, then an appropriate hand tool
get the flat head red hot and slice them off. Then undo the fasteners to get off the rest.

Re: Removing factory bumperettes??
Well, I was hoping to be able to reinstall them - are you saying that there's no hardware holding them on?? I just have to cut/rip them off?

Re: Removing factory bumperettes??
Best I remember (and it's been quite a while), I believe there's just a couple of nuts holding them on (there's a little stud running through them). And I believe there's access through that cheap arse factory bumper.......but you might have to take the bumper off - no big deal, really. I think I first removed mine when I mounted my high-lift jack up there (which involved removing the bumper). Bumperettes and factory bumper are all gone now, so that's all from three years ago in a 50+ year old burnt-out memory.
Hope that helped somewhat.Just Enjoy Every Possibility!

Re: Removing factory bumperettes??
My 04 had maybe 3 torx screws holding them on but the 06s may be different. Take a look right on top of the metal part of the bumper next to the plastic end. Or bottom, I can't remember. There should be a pretty obvious way to remove them. Knowing Jeep, it's probably a torx head.

Forget my earlier response. I didn't read close enough. I thought he was trying to get the plastic bumper ENDS off but rereading his post he is clearly trying to get off the forward facing rubber thingies on the front of the bumper. My bad.
