cap and rotor

So on a hunch this afternoon, I pulled the cap to inspect it and the rotor on my 97 TJ 2.5. What I found was black corrosion looking substance on the contacts for each plug wire and on the rotor point. There was some, although not as bad, on the center contact from the coil wire.

My question is, was this just a sign that the cap and rotor needed replaced (which I did) or is it a sign of something else wrong? coil possibly? anything else? thanks!

Nathan

Re: cap and rotor

You probably could have just cleaned the corrosion off with a wire brush and re-used it. It's normal though.

Re: cap and rotor

I thought so, but it had been a while since I'd changed a cap and rotor on anything. And for 15 bucks to get both of them, wasnt a huge deal to just replace instead of cleaning

Thanks!
