TJ Exhaust Question

Hey folks,

Thinking about upgrading my cat to a high flow aftermarket one. My TJ is a 2.5L running 32's...

That being said, I'm not looking or expecting to improve HP gains much at all. I do however, want that nice truck exhaust sound. Clearly, it will never sound like a V8 or anything, but...

Everyone seems to recommend Flowmaster. Im looking at either the 40 or 50 series muffler.

My major question is... how will either of these sound on a 2.5L? I do not want anything too loud so I cant hear my music in the cockpit, and I dont want anything that sounds ricer like.

My second question is... I do not have a big budget. In my case, would it be okay to just replace the stock muffler without replacing all the pipes? Does that honnestly make a difference in sound (remember, not looking for HP gains in large leaps).

Thanks guys!

Re: TJ Exhaust Question

I've yet to find an exhaust setup that sounds very good on a 2.5L, and I've tried the queitest Flowmaster (50DF) and it was too loud. Currently running an OEM muffler with no cat and it's nice and deep, real mellow and not too loud.
