Another 'noob' question

I swapped the hard top for the soft top on my '06 TJ this past weekend. I'm lovin' the soft top (and had a great drive with the top down on the 4th, I might add, despite getting my face covered in bug-goo, but that's another story...), but I have a question. When you put the top down, what are you "supposed" to do with the windows?? I ended up rolling the rear window up on the bar that goes across the tailgate and laying it in the floor in front of the back seat, and I tried to roll the side windows but because of the seals on the side and bottom it didn't want to roll, so I just kind of folded them over and stuck them in the back under the folded down top. Is that ok?? Any better suggestions??

Re: Another 'noob' question

If i know it's not gonna rain i just leave em in my garage and carry around a little cover top thing. If it looks like it's not gonna rain or if i know i'm not gonna be using my back seat to tote people around i just throw everything back there. Should fit in your trunk though or at least it used to on mine before i put the sub box back there and it's all hidden under the rolled back top(i have a yj and don't know if your trunk is the same size). Best advice, leave it at home and if it rains, drive faster.

Re: Another 'noob' question

I guess what I meant was, is it ok to just fold up/roll up the windows to stow them, or is that "bad" for them?

Re: Another 'noob' question

i always just folded the side curtains and put them behind the rear seat... the rear window rolled up and held with the elastic snap straps to the rear bar and folded down... folded the top part up and tucked it in behind the rear seat under the bar.... you'll get the hang of it... dont have a top now so dont have to worry bout it (love living in a desert!)

Re: Another 'noob' question

The other day I saw some girl riding in a YJ with the soft top balled up behind the fold and tumble seat. The full frame was still in place front to rear lol

Re: Another 'noob' question

no... whats cool is when you try to fold it all up and blast down a desert powerline road and end up with your top unfolding and flailing like superman's cape! hehehe... would've been embarassing on a public road! ;o)

Thats how I did it the first time I took it down...

They make window rolls that you can roll up your side windows in to preotect them from scratching up and stuff though.

Re: Another 'noob' question

I take my side windows out and store them in the garage all summer. I roll the back window up and secure it with the elastic straps-n-snaps.

Re: Another 'noob' question

If you fold or roll them they will get scratched up. The best way to store them is layed out flat with a towel or other soft cloth between them.

True, mine are all scratched to prove that.

For that money ($600+), I'd just assume stay with my Bestop Supertop

Re: Another 'noob' question

I kinda like the look....I'd have to see one up close though before I pass judgement. I've always wondered why someone didn't come up with a soft top that used the roll bars as a frame, instead of adding another frame and hardware to the Jeep.......

Looks like passengers in the back wouldn't have much head room.
