Question on axle trade

Hey guys,

A wheeling buddy of mine is selling his jeep. It's a CJ7. Before he sells it he is going to let me buy/trade some parts on it. Well he is interested in my trade for his HP currie 9 inch rear axle with a detroit, 4.88's, 31 splines blah blah blah for my amc 20 with an arb, 4.88's, and 1 piece axles plus some cash. My question is how much cash should I give him plus my axle for this trade? Thanks in advance.

Kyle

Re: Question on axle trade

no more than a couple hundred bucks. The lockers are about even trade. You upgraded the axles, so they're even. The gears are the same. All that's left is the housing, no more than 200. hopefully less.

Re: Question on axle trade

Currie charges a premium for those axles. I guess you should add up what you have in yours, then price his from Currie and find some middle ground.
I think it is definitely a worthwhile trade.

Re: Question on axle trade

The fact it's a Currie axle and it's a HP centersection makes it worth significantly more, I'd say closer to $400 difference between the two at least.

$5. No more.

Sparky secretly offers Sully's buddy $400 plus Sully's axles, which he stole overnight while Sully was dreaming of Mingez's Surrey

Re: Question on axle trade

I thought about it and I decided to put it on the backburner for now. I need to focus on putting on my new bellhousing and making sure my tranny is working alright before I mess with this axle swap plus going to rear disk brakes rom drums. If he has it in a month or so I am going to follow through with the trade. The HP is weaker on a rear application but it's already a 31 spline axle and I am only going to be running 35's at most. The HP should sort out my driveline issues as well. I hope he still has it when I get all this work done.
