Steering Shaft Removal

I need some assistance with removing the steering shaft of my '93 YJ 4.0L, so that I can remove the body/tub from the frame. The Haynes manual isn't of much help on this topic. I have removed the top compression screw from the steering shaft (just above the u-joint), and will be removing the compression screw from the lower u-joint at the steering gear box, if necessary. The top connection does slide about 1/8" now, but definately not far enough to disengage it from the steering column that protrudes through the firewall. Does the steering gear box need to be removed? Can I at least loosen and reposition the gear box to remove the steering shaft?
