Shake

Hey I got a shaking when I let out the clutch and press hard on the accelerator. I can kinda feel the wobble in the accelerator, the clutch and the steering. I definitely do hear it coming from right about the rear diff.

Re: Shake

Sounds like a ujoint getting ready to let go, or rear pinion bearings. That is if you haven't done any mods before the problem.

Re: Shake

no i havent done any mods, it doesnt sound like a u joint, my friend had that happen in his 4 runner and it sounded more like a bass that pulsed faster or slower depending on speed.
someone told me to check rear shock mounts in case axle is slipping around or check motor/tranny mount sound correct?

thanks for the input though i appreciate it

Re: Shake

I guess it could be a bad mount, but I don't have a clue why you would check the rear shocks.

Have you closely inspected the ujoints or checked the rear pinion for any lateral play?

Re: Shake

Also remove the front driveshaft to rule out the front 1/2 of the drivetrain.

Re: Shake

chock the wheels put it in neutral and crawl under it. grab the driveshaft and twist it back and forth and push up and down on it. any more than 1/4 inch twist and any movement up or down at the cross's will be a bad u joint. easy to check. might as well rule it out right off the bat. takes 5 minutes.

Re: Shake

Grab the shaft and shake it. If there's excessive slop you'll know it. Apply force in multiple directions.

Re: Shake

ok so i just crawled under and check the output shaft from the transfer case to the rear axle with it in gear, no movement. With it in neutral just a small bit of radial movement but not a lot, I would guess its loose there. I also checked to see if the rear leafs were loose somewhere but didnt find play there or in the motor mounts...
could it be the tranny mounts?

Re: Shake

My bet is still on u-joints, but check your motor mounts and transfer case mounts.

Re: Shake

See posts 7 and 11. Try to move it side to side and up and down, it shouldn't move.
If you suspect the transfer case mount, lay on your back and see if you can push it back and forth with your foot. It also should not move.
Should be able to do a visual chack on the motor mounts or get a friend to put it in gear and let the clutch out while you watch. The engine will torque sideways to some extent, excessive movement will indicate bad mounts.
