Runny Oil

Hey, new here.. new to jeeps.

I just got a 2003 TJ sport with only 40000Kms.. (~25K miles)..

I changed the oil when i got it 2.5 months ago, and it was VERY runny and dark. I thought maybe the last guy didnt change it very often.

But then I noticed my Coolant res is getting lower. Not fast, but maybe 2/3 of the res in 3 months. And there are NO puddles in the 2 places i park everyday.

Is there any chance the head gasket could have gone already? It seems unlikely, and i havent read about this being a common thing with thr 4L..

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas?

if this is a headgasket, will the warranty cover that? (i'm still covered on drivetrain warranty)

If it was a head gasket (coolant getting into the oil), your oil would not be dark...........it would be creamy colored and perhaps a little foamy (not good!). "Runny and dark" just sounds like "old and dirty" to me. Not sure about your coolant problem, but doesn't sound to me like it's getting into your oil. Whatever it is, your warranty should cover it...........mine ran out at 36,000 miles ('03 TJ 4banger....sittin' at 117,000 miles - no head gasket issues!!).
