It Lives! But only because of You Guys!
As you may have noticed over the past weeks, due to my numerous posts, we put a 2004 Wrangler with its auto trans & transfer case into our 1989 Wraangler which was a 4.2 with a 5 speed.
Anyhow, strarted it up yesterday & it's a dandy! Sits and idles with around 60 lbs of oil pressure. Just a lot of work yet to do putting all the little things back together. Yesterday I met a gent who's a buddy of my buddy where we are doing the swap. He has a 2002 Wrangler at his place that's been in an accident - they sold the motor (4 cyl) out of it & I don't know what else..... but anyway, I got the radiator from it, mine was really on its last legs!
Gotta check the seats...hmmmmmmm?
I kept the stock 89 fuel tank so we went with a 80's vintage Big Ford truck external fuel pump. I just have to get a Grand Cherokee type inline fuel regulator & filter set up because the Ford pump puts out to high of pressure & the computer starts to act up! I bought shifting linkage from a guy on eBay & we can't wait to get it so that we can take it around the block.
It would have been beyond my capability to do this switch if it weren't for the Jeep Service Manual Data I received & the info which has lead me down the proper path!
Thanks Brothers of the Mud!
Jim

Re: It Lives! But only because of You Guys!
Yeah well - you see I'm going to be 67 in June & I'm not the greatest with digital cameras & the internet etc...... I do have a digital camera that my son gave me when he bought a better one......... I did take some pictures when we pulled the drivetrain out because I sold it on eBay.... I could take some pictures now that the motor is in but it's real dark in the garage... Maybe I'll wait till it comes out into the light on its maiden voyage!
Then I'll have to get somebody to help put them up so that you can see them..........

Just email some photos to me (webmaster at jeepz) and I'll upload them if you'd like.

Re: It Lives! But only because of You Guys!
Does the 4.0 not have a regulator built into the throttle body?
The E2000 Ford pump is capable of pushing 75 psi, though the 4.0 will require much less (not sure exactly what psi it needs). Most throttle bodies have the regulator built in though.
Also, I doubt the computer knows how much pressure your fuel pump is giving the engine. To my knowledge there is no sensor. Either it has too little and won't run, or it has too much and blows the regulator gaskets.
I'm not the Jeep fuel injection expert though. Just tossing out ideas because I know you can spend a lot of time chasing ghosts on these things. I would recommend more research before trying to use another regulator.

I know the ECU does not know the pressure, because one of the mods many 4-bangers use when installing a turbo is increasing the fuel pressure by means of a new regulator to get more fuel in the system. Some 4-bangers even use them without the turbo for the same reason (albeit some other mods are needed to take advantage of this).

Re: It Lives! But only because of You Guys!
60,
You do have the fuel pump wired through the fuel pump relay, right? If you straight wire it without the relay, it will run all the time and overpressure.
