Roll cage questions
So I have a 91 yj... and the roll cage extends to the windshield... and those bars, that extend, are secured to the rest of the roll cage with some sort of securing device that I am unable to distinguish... What are they, how do I get them the hell off, and what special tool do I need??
Thanks in advance

Re: Roll cage questions
You mean the Otrx screws? I think a picture would help here, but if it is the stock sport cage, it should only be fixed with a couple of torx head screws...

Re: Roll cage questions
Torx bolts, they make special torx sockets. If some of them have a small dimple in the middle of the torx hole, then you need a set of tamper-proof torx sockets. I'm thinking the bolts that attach the spreader bars to the main hoop are tamper-proof.

Re: Roll cage questions
I just got on mine with a pair of vice grips. They're big enough to grab and turn with some vice grips locked on there.

Re: Roll cage questions
Rule number 3 for building a bullet proof jeep is to replace ALL torx fasteners! If you can take them to a hardware store and find something else to replace them with, like a bolt, you'd be saving yourself future headaches:)

I dont know... If you have the torx drivers, they are fairly easy to take out. At least easier than a philips head!

Re: Roll cage questions
They are not normal torx, they have a pin or something in the middle... So now I need to go buy a set of something else? Anyone know the correct size for it? I really would prefer not to buy an entire set for something I am only going to use once... hopefully I'll be able to replace all the torx with hex bolts or something. Had to drill 2 or 3 out. Ugh.

Re: Roll cage questions
Those are tamper proof torx. I dont know the size, but I bought my torx set as a tamper proof torx, and they work for both regular torx and tamper proof torx. You can always do as Corrupt says, and take them out with vice grips and replace them, or you can just get the tamper proof torx.
