Genright Crusher Corners

Well, I got them now. I am designing a fender to go on them.

Got a tube bender and will be trying some custom work...

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

Be sure to post pics.

A friend of mine just put a set on his TJ that move the wheel opening back, and he made a set of tube fenders for them. I'll see the final product this weekend.

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

Update -

It is a slow project. I am trying to do it right!

Determining the size of the fender flare - I have determined 4.5"

Using packaging as a pattern after sizing it on the YJ... My first attempt using a tube bender beyond a simple project or two...

Such as my new light bar on the front here.

4 bends to keep the project simple

Sizing it up to make sure that everything is coming out correctly.

I want to get a good prototype before I weld a thing so that the pattern pieces are correct.

I have the tubing that I'll need. I ordered the sheet metal for the skin and expect it tomorrow or Monday.

Update completed...

What are the specs on the Rug?

jk

Looks great, are you going for full tire coverage? May I suggest allowing for a little of the tire to stick out, so when your in a situation where the tire will make majority of the contact with a obsticle and the flare will only take a minimum beating. Recently a firend had his corners pushed in a good 2 inched in a side slide situation and his tube flare stuck out beyond the tire and it put about 100% of the stress on the top of the body and the 3/16 steel is tough, just not that tough.

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

As for the width, I've thought about it quite a bit. I have Warn 7" fender flares now. When they tap a rock, they come off. They are made to do that and are a flexible plastic material. Redo some double-sided tape and remount the screws.

With the tube flender flares, I cut them back to (about) 4". That plus the bulk of the Genright Crusher corners will make them 4.25"

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

Update!

Cleaned 'em up and got the skins cut to size.

Aligning the flares to the corners and sizing the fit.

About how it will look on the rig. Now to tack weld it and bend the skin over the tubes. Then the installation welding of the flares to the corners.

Coming along!

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

The project is really coming along now!

Got the passenger side ready to mount, but have not mounted it as of yet. Wanted to go on a ride with Jeepster357 and Jeepstergirl (so check the 'Events' section for that!

Advice - I've sanded them and primed them to keep them from rusting. How should they be painted? I can rattle can them and get fair results, but what would you do with them? Keep in mind, that because of this money pit jeep I will never be able to retire...

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

BTW... The soft top would not fit with the crusher corner on. Had to be innovative. Instead of a washer above the body mount strip on the tub, I put the washer between the tub and the mounting strip. Now the soft top goes on!

I may redesign it to use inner tube rubber (old parts from mountain bikes) to raise the mounting strip. That way, there won't be open areas to catch air or wind. It will also have a more solid feel to it.

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

Driver side is done!

Carried the flare down aways. Sealed the underside with black silicon.

Came out great!

Re: Genright Crusher Corners

The passenger will be a different story...

I knew when I got it that the YJ had a problem. I have since exascerbated it.

When we fitted the passenger side corner to the frame there was a gap of about an inch at the top. We determined that something was wrong with the frame.

My friend, Tom, and I were under the Jeep Sunday with a cumalong to attempt to pull the bumper back into place. There was a definite gap on the passenger side that is not on the driver's side. We were able to get it close but could not use it. We decided to take it to a frame shop.

$900 he said, as the frame is bent. It seems to be about an inch out of square. Then he asked, "Are you going to continue to take it off-road?" He hinted that we may not want him to do the work. He suggested the following plan.

Back the YJ up against a large tree with the driver's side rear bumper up against the tree. Lash it firmly to the tree. Using an additional tree in a good location, try using the winch to pull the frame back into place. You'll know as the corner will fit into place. Install the other corner right them when it will fit.

I don't have a good picture of the passenger side back to show you. I'll try to post one soon.
