Broken Seat Track Release Cable?

Hey everyone. I have a broken seat cable on my YJ.. the one that lets you flip the entire seat forward to load up with kids?

I checked the archives here and I am reading that there is no fix... you need to get a whole new seat? Oh come on.. I used to watch McGuyver! Surely I can fix it with some duct tape and a empty Pamprin bottle?!

My hubby insisted there is NO cable in that seat... after a half hour upside down under there... HA HA! There was a cable. Why don't men listen to women??
I don't know why this cable runs through the entire seat.. seems kinda dumb. Surely we could jigger one from point A directly to point B? OR.. I know this is going to sound WAY out there.. I could just load them in the OTHER side! HA!

You know those seats unbolt from the floor. You don't have to hang upside down with your head underneath.

Take it apart and try to replace the cable. Let us know what kind of McGuyvering it takes.

Re: Broken Seat Track Release Cable?

My YJ seats didn't have a cable. The whole base on the passenger seat kinda of scissored and moved the seat forward when you pulled the handle on the base...

Yeah, mine does the same but hidden under that handle there is a cable that runs thru the edge of the seat, under the seat cover, and down to the other side where it attaches to a little lever that allows it to "scissor". If you don't look real good you wouldn't know it's there.
When you lift the handle it acts like a pool cue and "hits" the lever pushing it away so the seat can come up. Seems pretty stupid to me...I tried to jigger it with a piece of twine, etc... you can reach under the front and manually push the lever down but it's easier to just have the kids climb over than do that. I am kinda lazy. When the top is off, the kids prefer to just climb over the side, monkey style. That works too.

Oh shoot! I always forget to take pictures when I am wearing that white tank top and hanging upside down inside my Jeep ! What's wrong with me??!!

Next time I will post them here, along with the drunken video of me and my girlfriends on the trampoline.
