89 yj problem

i have a 89 yj 4.2 that will start sometimes and than it won't .when it wont start there is no spark from coil [new coil] go out later and it starts got me puzzled?? Any ideas would be great

How is you grounds? What about your battery cables?

turns over great cables good ground good would not start today but let it roll down hill and poped the clutch fired right up. Than quit just like i turned the key off

Maybe someone else who has a 4.2 could help you. My wife has a 88 yj with 2.5. I know on hers it has a CPS crank position sensor. I also know that they are have be known to fail. Which should turn of the spark.

hey thanks for the help found out that the junction box where hot wires connect was loose .been starting all day. We will see if that works.

I have done the fore dist and coil upgrade and it was an amazing diffrence and EASY to do. If you have not I would definitaly recomend it!
