easiest way to the timing chain?

I have a 1974 jeep cj5 V-8 and I havent checked my timing chain since i got it and I dont know the condition it was in before I got it. so i think I should prob check it, what is the easiest way to get to it??

Easiest way?, remove everything in the front of the timing cover and remove the timing cover . Installing it will be a different story.. I found that it's easier to remove the oil pan so that the dowels on the block to the timing cover would line up a lot easier. This would be an opportunity to re seal a leaking oil pan gasket and or a leaking rear and front main seal.
