I currently have a 85 CJ7 with an Automatic Chrysler 999 and I was wondering if an Automatic Transmission out of a 89 Cherokee will fit with out any mods. Please help not much time to make a decision.ggreen71@comcast.net

Autoīs are for people who would rather steer than shift. Advanceadapters.com, if I understood correctly, says there is a difference in the bell housings starting in 87. And you always have to be carefull of the tranny/ transfer spline count anyway. Check out the site and see if you get the same thing out of it as I did. There is alot of info in there, but it really isnīt layed out, for Jeep to Jeep conversions.[addsig]

Yeah I believe there is a bellhousing difference. If you are looking for an upgrade I have heard that the TF727 makes a good heavy duty upgrade for a worn out 999. Here is a link that might help.

If you go with the TF727 from a SJ remember you will need a minimum 3-4 inch lift or your front driveshaft will not be able to be installed. Been there Done that . 8-) [addsig]
