On a 2009? wouldn't really matter if it's within 3 years or 36,000 miles, that should be still under manufacturers warranty.

Unless you ran it underwater, hydrolocked it, and bent a rod.
I never looked under an '09. If it's possible to remove the oil pan and pull it out through the bottom, it shouldn't cost a ton of money. If they have to pull the engine out and do it that way, it will cost a ton of money. Probably $2000 at least.

You never know.

My brother had a Ford Escape engine completely disassemble itself just a couple thousand miles outside the warranty. They negotiated a brand new engine, installed for $1500. Not a bad deal.
