89' YJ Lift

I want to put 35" tires on my jeep.
  • How much lift body lift?
  • How much suspension lift?
  • Who should I get the lift from?
  • Wheel size?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Re: 89' YJ Lift

You will need a minimum 6" of lift to clear those tires, in a combination of spring and body lift. Adding TJ fender flares with minor fender trimming will help as well.

I run a spring over axle (SOA) with about 6-7" of lift to clear 35" tires.

Re: 89' YJ Lift

Wouldn't a 4" spring lift and a 1" BL clear 35's? 35's are only 1" taller from the axle up than 33's, and 4" of suspension lift on mine clear 33's...

As for brand, there are many good ones. Personally, I am very happy with Rubicon Express, but there are other good ones out there

Re: 89' YJ Lift

I still think you would see some rubbing without a little more fender clearance. The YJ's fenders are pretty tight compared to a TJ, and a lot of YJ's rub at 4" and 33" tires, depending on the brand of lift.

Re: 89' YJ Lift

I have a 3.5" lift spring that has settled to about 3" and TJ flares and I fit a 36" tire on my yj. I do not have any rubbing except on the spring at full lock, but that is because I have stock chevy rims with 4.5" of back spacing.

If you set your bump stops properly and don't mind trimming, you do not need any more than 4" of lift.

Re: 89' YJ Lift

I stuffed 35s under my 1989 YJ with a 3.5inch fabtech spring lift. It is a SuA setup but had to do some heavy fender trimming.

Remember there will be significant more mass and inertia with the larger tires so you have longer braking distances and the brakes will be doing more work to stop the additional mass. You might want to consider upgrading the brakes at some point.
